On the Monday following Ash Wednesday, carnival or Fasnacht in Basel Switzerland begins at 4 am. All of the lights in the town are turned off and a parade of masked characters - with only lanterns guiding their way- take over the streets. For the next 72 hours, masked figures, confetti and lots of music fill the city
