At the very, very end of Long Island lies a place that holds special meaning to this surf loving couple: Montauk. Naturally, they decided to have Gurney’s Star Island wedding. The resort is right on Montauk Lake. Perfect for a nautical themed wedding ceremony and portraits. Gurney’s signature lighthouse was a great backdrop of the first look. In addition, there are great wedding portrait locations nearby including the Montauk Lighthouse and beaches including Sunset Beach and Ditch Plains. (we did photos during their rehearsal dinner at Gosman’s Restaurant) My couple chose Navy Beach which features a park with a pier and a rocky shoreline. There are many beautiful spots to take photos there!
The ceremony was held on a grassy lawn overlooking Lake Montauk and the docks. Birds and the occasional plane flew by, adding to the ambience. Guests took the short walk back to the resort for cocktails outside overlooking the docks. There was a fire pit, sushi bar and fresh oysters. Gurney’s Star Island wedding receptions are typically held in a large white room with a vaulted ceiling and cozy fireplace. In addition, a room for dancing with access to an outdoor deck and bar area adjoins it.
This wedding is designed by Karen Lenahan Designs and features beautiful white florals, candles and greenery. String lights add to the ambience over the tables It creates an intimate and warm environment for the guests and couple. Framed portraits greet guests on arrival and taffy favors sweetened their departure. Be sure to see the adorable surfer groom and bride cake topper!
