BROOKLYN-CHANGING

144 North 8th St Brooklyn Under Construction

The first super tall condo building called the Finger Building rises in Williamsburg, Brooklyn at 144 North 8th Street, December 30, 2006. The building broke ground in 2005 sneaking in before new zoning laws took effect but wasn't finished until 2011 due to permit issues, loan default and lawsuits. The foreground features an old Mobil Gas station sign, the only remains of a station that was on the corner of N 7th and Berry Streets. The building was designed by Brooklyn architect Robert Scarano Jr. who was barred in 2010 from submitting plans to New York City Department of Buildings for deceptive practices including ignoring zoning laws relating to height and using a "mezzanine trick" to gain size illegally. The original plans called for a 21 story building, but after a court fight, the building topped out at 10 stories.

Location: 144 North 8th Street, Brooklyn, New York.
